On its figures, Advanced Micro Devices Inc said its non-iAPX-86-compatible business grew by nearly 14% in the second quarter, offsetting a decline in Am386 microprocessor sales: four of its divisions established new sales records during the second quarter – programmable logic products, led by CMOS PLD growth reached the highest level since 1990; the Am386 microprocessor business reflected the market shift toward 80486-based personal computers, as revenues from Am386s declined in a softer market with lower average selling prices; it shipped 2m in the quarter and expects unit ships to be steady; its confidence in the growing importance of Flash memory was borne out by a quarter-to-quarter growth rate of nearly 60%, the firm said.
