Sequent Computer Systems Inc, Beaverton, Oregon says it will ship production versions of the new WinServer family of database and application servers by mid-September. The WinServer systems come preinstalled and preconfigured with Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT Advanced Server. Three of the four family members the WinServer 1000, 1500 and 3000, which are the models that come from Tricord Systems Inc – will begin shipping next month with the fourth, the home-grown WinServer 5000, scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter. The family scales from one to 30 Intel Corp processors – which can be 80486s, Pentiums or a mix. The WinServer family will be sold through a Sequent sales channel called WinCentral Direct, in addition to Sequent’s direct sales force. WinCentral Direct is staffed by Sequent technical and business consultants who will try to help customers make appropriate WinServer technology and configuration decisions.
