IBM Corp vice-president Lucie Fjelstad has been talking to the Wall Street Journal about the company’s very shadowy plans to enter the interactive cabled entertainment business – talks have been going on for a long time with the likes of Time Warner Inc and Tele-Communications Inc with Toshiba Corp in the wings, and she says that IBM has committed more than $100m to the creation of a company to send videos, software and multi-media education and entertainment over a digital highway to peoples’ homes; she now says that the company will start less ambitiously with business services using local networks and the telephone system rather than broadband television cable.
