Another nail in the AD/Cycle coffin is that Steve Uhlin who was responsible for managing the technical development of Repository Manager/MVS out of IBM’s Santa Theresa labs resigned last week to join a rival Unix competitor: meanwhile Ed Yourdon recently commented that anyone who is serious about CASE has to be aware of the open systems movement and the growing importance like the ECMA PCTE standard, which IBM may or may not support in the future. In the best of all worlds, maybe IBM will deliver a future version of AD/Cycle and Repository that will run on OS/2, or on the RS/6000 workstation under Unix. But if I had to make a commitment now, I think I would either consider a major alternative player like DEC, or go with one of the independent vendors like TI or Andersen whose promise to eventually support AD/Cycle can be believed.
