New company MountainGate Data Systems Inc of Orange, California has announced its removable and optical drives. The company, which was formed by Lockheed Corp in the summer, is jointly managed by Lockheed and two formerly independent data storage companies, MDB Systems Inc and Cherokee Data Systems Inc. Its current range includes DataShuttle, a family of 5.25 removable hard disk drives in both single and dual drive configurations that have up to 5Gb of on-line storage. DataShuttle drives feature MountainGate’s proprietary shock isolation scheme that protects data during transport; and Pathfinder Rugged Optical Drives write-once 5.25 optical drives for ANSI/ISO standard media and embedded SCSI controllers, for up to 650Mb of data per disk. MountainGate’s latest 5.25 optical disk drive family, the Pathfinder 7000 series features multifunction read and write for both write-once and magneto-optical erasable optical media. The disk subsystems will be available in the second quarter but no prices were given.
