British Telecommunications Plc came out with its response to the most recent Office of Telecommunications demands, saying that it is prepared to publish two sets of price lists for other telephone companies to interconnect with its network, saying that such a move would make the UK telephone market more like the US market: the first price list would cover connections to British Telecom’s local loop, where it encounters little competition, and the second would be for connection to the company’s long-distance and international networks, including private circuits – areas where it faces strong competition from a growing number of new licensees; the company promised that the two price schedules would be closely related to costs, and would provide a stable pricing regime; it said it favoured a fully competitive and open market, and said other UK operators should publish similar price lists; British Telecom said it will make a formal response to the suggestions from Oftel next month, but didn’t say when first price lists might be published.
