Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd is to dissolve its joint venture with Hewlett-Packard Co for the manufacture and sale of high-density multi-layer printed circuit boards designed for computers, Reuter reports from Tokyo. The 50-50 joint venture in Puerto Rico, Hewlett Packard Oki Circuits, will be dissolved before the end of June due to increased competition from cheaper products made in Southeast Asia. Oki Puerto Rico Inc, wholly owned by Oki, will also shut down. The decision is unlikely to have any effect on Oki’s efforts to do an embedded version of the Precision Architecture RISC.
