Knighthoods for Colin Southgate, Thorn EMI Plc chairman and chief executive, who spent much of his career in the computer services business, but has now divested most of Thorn’s interests in the sector, and for Des Pitcher, one-time luminary of Univac UK Ltd and of Plessey Co but now running retailer and pools promoter the Littlewoods Organisation, and an OBE for David Dunn, who valiantly runs Britain’s last chip fabrication company, GEC-Plessey Semiconductors Ltd in the face of widespread indifference were among the awards included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
