Along with the new low-end AV5500 single and dual processor servers detailed earlier this week (CI No 2,282), Data General Corp revealed a set of 20 new software partnerships at a press conference in London yesterday. Atop the list was an endorsement of Hewlett-Packard Co’s OpenView network management software for the AViiON: Digital Equipment Corp, IBM Corp and NCR Corp already make OpenView the basis of their network management, and Hewlett says it has further deals in the pipeline, and has also announced support for SNA networks from within OpenView. Data General will integrate OS/Eye*Node network management software from Digital Analysis Corp, for which it already has a deal and some 200 customers. It also announced partnerships with Saros Corp for its document management and storage software, Forte Software Inc for its upper middleware client-server application development software, and Tivoli Systems Inc for distributed systems management. Uniplex Ltd’s OnGo office software is out now and Computer Associates International Inc’s Unicenter systems management is brought forward six months. On the mainframe downsizing front, it has signed Cincom Systems Inc for Supra, Information Builders Inc for Focus, Bombay, India-based Datamatics Ltd for Wang Pace to AViiON migration software, and SyncSort Inc, Bull North America’s Integris Corp and Information Management Corp for batch transaction processing, CICS interoperability and mainframe-to-Unix file transfer tools. Centerline Software Inc’s Codecenter and Objectcenter, Datalogix International Inc process manufacturing, Dun & Bradstreet Software’s SmartStream, Patrol Software Inc DDS Patrol, PeopleSoft Inc personnel, Sterling Software Inc scheduling and job management, Sybase Inc System 10 and Symix Computer Systems Inc – manufacturing – complete the comprehensive list.
