Didn’t you think it a little cavalier of IBM Corp to preview the 50MHz version of the 80486 in a PS/2 before Intel Corp had even announced the part? Looks like Intel thought so too – IBM has now issued a clarification saying IBM’s announcement Tuesday involving Intel 80486 50MHz chip technology was not intended to be a product announcement: IBM’s intention was to demonstrate the capability to upgrade its PS/2 Model 90s and Model 95s with this technology when it becomes available from Intel, and to give IBM customers pricing information for their planning purposes, so IBM seems to have abandoned its policy of not speculating on future product announcements.
