PowerGen has awarded a UKP2m contract to ACT Logsys for the installation of a local area network comprising cabling and stations at 13 sites nationwide: ACT Logsys is the prime contractor with ACT Cablestream providing cabling and networking service, and the contract is to be completed by the end of May; each of the stations and administration centres is to be provided with an infrastructure provising local office automation and database capabilities, and then linked via gateways to existing IBM and ICL mainframes; the cabling comprises Ethernet-based Cabletron equipment with a fibre optic backbone installed across the sites; the contract also includes 12 Apricot FTs servers, 240 hard disk LANworkstations and 440 diskless workstations.
