In keeping with its name Double-Take Software has launched two new products aimed at organisations wanting to simplify their backup strategy, particularly those with multiple remote or branch offices.
Double-Take Backup brings together data replication, archiving and continuous data protection into one product, while Double-Take Availability sees the arrival of some new mirroring capabilities to its core product.
The product development rounds out the company’s workload optimisation suite and better positions it in the market for remote and branch office backup where it sees a gap developing for real-time backup, as opposed to scheduled approaches or traditional tape.
The company claimed Double-Take Backup introduces a new approach to remote and branch office backup by continuously sending changes in protected data efficiently over WAN connections to a central location, which eliminates backup windows.
It will backup to the original server, to some new physical hardware or to a virtual machine running on VMware ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V.
The Double-Take Availability product is an update that adds new application-aware monitoring capabilities for Microsoft SQL and which uses a fast new way of re-synchronising protected data.
It can be primed to take corrective failover based on policies set by an administrator, and which covers popular applications like Exchange, SQL and SharePoint or any application running on Microsoft Windows.
Market demand for availability and recovery software is still not fully mature with Double-Take having recently found that as many as 49% of businesses still have no high availability solutions deployed to protect against system failures or outages.
This is despite most all of them admitting that a service being unavailable for any more than an hour would be deemed as unacceptable by the business.
