Banking equipment and 150,000 plastic cards were purchased by the administration of the Kirovsklij district of St Petersburg from Groupe Bull SA as part of a project to introduce a credit card payment system. Under the agreement, the system software will be developed by programmers from the St Petersburg Savings Bank and the Russian-Bulgarian joint venture enterprise Ilka. The St Petersburg authorities also plan to introduce an inter-regional electronic clearing system and are considering two proposals for the network: one developed at the Russian Computer Exchange and the Trade & Credit Partnership, the other one being submitted by Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA.
