Google has appointed VMware co-founder and CEO Diane Greene to run its cloud computing business.
In her role, Greene will lead a new team combining the company’s cloud businesses, including Google for Work, Cloud Platform, and Google Apps.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blog post, "This new business will bring together product, engineering, marketing and sales and allow us to operate in a much more integrated, coordinated fashion."
Google has also agreed to acquire Greene’s startup bebop Technologies, a development platform that helps in building and maintaining enterprise applications.
The company said the move will help businesses identify applications and take advantage of cloud computing.
bebop will help Google provide cloud products at end-user platforms such as Android and Chromebooks, infrastructure and services in its cloud platform, developer frameworks for mobile and enterprise users, and end-user apps like Gmail and Docs.
About 60% of the Fortune 500 companies are currently leveraging a paid Google for Work product. Google runs all of its own businesses on cloud infrastructure.
