Milpitas, California-based LSI Logic Corp says it has fabrication equipment that will enable it to make integrated circuits to 0.6 micron design rules from the fourth quarter this year, making it possible to integrate up to 2.4m transistors per chip, up from the 800,000 its equipment can do now: it has also introduced the first application-specific integrated circuits to be produced on the new line, including gate array, embedded array and cell-based technologies; the new products are the LCA 300K Compacted Array series, LCB300K Cell-Based ASICS and LEA 300K Embedded Array ASICs and offer up to 600,000 used gates and input-output counts greater than 800.
