Synergo Technology Ltd says Abbey National Plc has ordered its Tarot stockbroking system for use in share dealing applications at its new premises in Sheffield: the value of the software order is undisclosed; Abbey hasn’t even decided which vendor’s hardware it’s going to use – the group uses predominantly Unisys Corp and Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA systems but, since it needs new equipment for its new office anyway, and since the company is currently reviewing its Unix strategy, Abbey is believed to be evaluating Pyramid Technology Corp parallel architecture bid by Ing C Olivetti SpA against the IBM Corp RS/6000; the Tarot software also runs in Hewlett-Packard Co and Digital Equipment Corp Unix environments, says Synergo; Abbey National’s hardware isn’t expected to exceed two CPUs.

A STRANGE RUMBLING SENSATION…

Know how the fellow felt – the same kind of intensive concentration is needed to pull everything together on Computergram on deadline when visiting firemen from the US drop by to pass the time of day: Micro Focus Plc co-founder Paul O’Grady told the Mail on Sunday that one time when he was working on a major development effort in Santa Clara County for Apple Computer Inc, We worked for 448 hours non-stop on the program and I remember feeling very strange and couldn’t understand why – it was only when a door fell on me that I realised we were in the middle of an earthquake.
