Irvine, California-based AST Research Inc as expanded its Premium II line of computers with the Premium II 386/25: the 25MHz 80386-based Premium II offers Cupid-32 upgradeability, Intel’s Smart Cache for enhanced performance and AST’s ASIC chip design; also, the 386/25 has 2Mb of memory, expandable to 80Mb, and up to 16Mb can be located on the processor board; the CPU has Intel’s four-way set-associative Smart Cache design with 16Kb of cache memory which adapts the cache technology used on 80486 chips to the 80386 used on the 386/25; the $2,200 system supports an Intel 80387 or Weitek 3167 co-processor.
