British Telecommunications Plc is a painfully schizophrenic and transparently unhappy company these days – first it opted to market Northern Telecom Ltd’s PABXs in the UK despite still holding a 51% stake in arch-rival Mitel Corp, now it has decided to withdraw from the project to implement the Corporate Headquarters Office Technology System, CHOTS, project for the UK Ministry of Defence, saying that it faces constantly conflicting commitments for skilled resources – which makes it sound as if one of its own major internal projects needs more effort; British Telecom was leading a consortium that included Bull HN Information Systems, Nixdorf Computer UK and Secure Information Systems Ltd; the competing consortium was led by ICL Plc.
