Sky blocked its customers from accessing its site Newzbin2, following suit of BT in November.

Sky decided to take action after the Motion Picture Association (MPA) got a court order telling it to stop its customers’ having access to Newzbin2.

Sky said on its website that content owners can seek a court order which can compel internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to those sites over their broadband networks. "This happened with a website called Newzbin 2. We have received a court order requiring us to block access to this illegal website, which we did on 13th December, 2011," it added.

MPA has also asked Virgin Media and TalkTalk to block access to the site, but both of them said the entertainment body would have to get court orders before then can also do the same.

Virgin Media said as a responsible ISP, they would comply with any court order addressed to them but strongly believe such deterrents need to be accompanied by compelling legal alternatives.

Meanwhile, TalkTalk said it is yet to receive a court order in regards to banning access to Newzbin2.
