Philips Electronics NV’s Magnavox unit has given Borland International Inc an initial $800,000 order for nearly 200 copies of the InterBase relational database engine for use in Magnavox’s Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems contract with the US Army and Marines: the automated command and control system is being designed to monitor mission data for the battlefield, tracking information on both enemy and friendly troops; data will be entered and extracted using portable computers; InterBase is planned to run under HP-UX Unix on Hewlett-Packard Co machines.
