A global survey of IT decision makers on cloud computing usage trends conducted by TNS and commissioned by CSC finds that an increasing number of information technology (IT) decision makers around the globe feel that the shift to cloud computing is driven primarily by a desire to connect employees through the range of computing devices being used today.
About 33% of respondents mentioned accessibility to information through multiple devices as the most important reason for their decision to adopt cloud computing.
Around 21% of respondents said cloud computing would accelerate the speed of business while 17% felt it would cut costs.
In the US, 46% of small businesses stated that information access through a multitude of devices as the most important reason for adopting the cloud, while 10% of small businesses cited cutting costs.
Only 14% of companies downsized their IT departments after adopting cloud while 20% of organisations hired more cloud experts.
Though the majority of companies save money with cloud, their savings are minor. However, 92% of Brazilian companies cut costs compared to 70% of Australian firms after adoption of cloud.
