That canny old hayseed Ross Perot is saving himself a non inconsiderable amount of his vast fortune by delaying for as long as possible a declaration that he is running for President as an independent – while he’s undeclared, the media give him all the publicity he needs, and he doesn’t have to spend on advertising – but there’s little doubt that he will run, and on Tuesday, he cleared the decks by resigning his post as chairman of his $200m-a-year Perot Systems Corp. He will be succeeded by Morton Meyerson, a former president of Electronic Data Systems Corp. Perot will retain an active involvement with and will retain his seat on the board of the Herndon, Virginia services company.
