Hewlett-Packard has also signed its first licensee for its OpenODB object-oriented database management system: Informix Software Inc is to integrate OpenODB it with its Informix OnLine relational database, making OpenODB available on several of the hardware environments on which Informix runs. Hewlett will share other object-oriented technologies for distributed object environments with Informix, which will integrate them into its OpenCase/ToolBus environment, which is already based on the Hewlett-Packard SoftBench software development framework. Informix looks to OpenODB to enable it to provide customers with an easy evolution to object-oriented technology that enables them to use data already stored in the Informix-OnLine database.
