Toshiba Corp has responded to the money to be made out of green issues these days by developing a facsimile machine designed to save paper: the unit is equipped with a 9 by 2.7 LCD display on which the contents of the facsimile message can be displayed, and only then is the print button pressed if a hard copy is required; the 550 grade scanner part of the machine, which is at the front, can also be removed for handheld scanning; all received documents are read into memory for later selective printing; a commercial version is set for autumn.
