Large amounts of money could be generated in the long term by sending customers video films down their telephone wires, says BritishTelecommunications Plc, but it declined to comment on talk in the markets about what analysts believe are proposals to the board predicting revenues of UKP2,000m a year by the end of the century; word is that videos would cost UKP2.50 each and revenue per customer would amount to UKP250 a year, implying some 8m customers by the end of the century, analysts told Reuters; cost of building the system is put at about UKP400m; UK cable television companies are furious at the plan and say they believe it is more about hurting the cable industry than generating revenue for BT.
