Commenting on some sturdy figures given the current bloodbath in the personal computer industry (see page five) AST Research Inc says it shipped a record 475,000 computers worldwide last fiscal, representing a near 50% volume increase for the year; North American revenues in the fiscal fourth quarter to June 27 rose 13% to $140.1m; fourth quarter international revenues rose 46% to $126.2m, with sales up 70% in the company’s Pacific Rim region and 35% in Europe, where sales for the fiscal year climbed to $218.5m; the company has however had to cut prices yet again, but up to another 47%; a 386sx/20 machine with a 40Mb disk is reduced by 42% to $1,400.
