Interesting piece in ZDNet by a hack citing 10 reasons why they are dumping their iPad for a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Of course, many of the reasons are rather subjective, for instance the argument that the iPad is just a little too heavy for her to hold for very long. But I also notice that some are the exact same reasons I said a while back I wouldn’t be in the market for an iPad: no Flash support, no USB or SSD memory slot, no camera.
Either way, it’s articles like this that will be giving Steve Jobs sleepless nights, and why he tried to pre-empt the comparisons by saying that 7 inch tablets are "dead on arrival".
Jobs said on an analyst earnings call of 7 inch tablets: "It is meaningless, unless your tablet also includes sandpaper, so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of the present size. Apple’s done extensive user-testing on touch interfaces over many years, and we really understand this stuff. There are clear limits of how close you can physically place elements on a touch screen before users cannot reliably tap, flick or pinch them."
Presumably that’s the same kind of "extensive user-testing" that spectacularly failed to spot that the iPhone 4 was not so great at making and receiving calls, forcing Apple to issue free ‘bumper’ cases to disgruntled punters.
