Amdahl Corp president Joseph Zemke said that while the company expects a return to profitability sometime in 1993, the outlook remains cautious: We were surprised by the sudden and dramatic drop in demand, Zemke told a teleconference with analysts and reporters – We do have customers sitting on the sidelines; the company is scaling back operations to keep costs down; Amdahl said it was becoming more guarded about its fourth quarter results because of continuing margin pressures, but Amdahl looks to save more than $45m in 1993 from previously announced lay-offs and will save several million dollars from lower discretionary spending.
