Chicago-based VideOcart Inc and IBM have announced that videocarts with IBM-manufactured display units are being used in 10 Kroger stores in Atlanta, Georgia: each new installation will have 150 carts and all 10 sites are now operational; VideOcart is rolling out an electronic network for the delivery of marketing messages to intelligent display screens on shopping carts, and it plans to use the IBM Information Network for delivery; the VideOcart network displays animated messages on a computerised display screen attached to a shopping trolley, and as a shopper pushes the trolley through the store, the display advertises services and sales promotions; the message is software-driven from a central location and the messages can be targeted at the store level according to a variety of different marketing criteria.
