Back in 1981, AT&T Co was a giant with $50,900m annual business, while IBM Corp was an up-and-comer with sales of $29,070m; by 1983, the last year before the Baby Bells were spun out, AT&T had grown to $69,000m; in 1984, that fell back to $33,190m with the Bells gone, and IBM soared past it at $45,810m; this year, for the first time since the break-up, AT&T inches back past IBM with annual turnover of $64,900m where IBM did $64,523m.
