Putting the best possible spin on its new partnership, British Telecommunications Plc announced yesterday that from July 1 it will offer a package of price cuts that will bring cheaper calls to North America and Europe, extending price cuts to the US and Canada made in January: the company insisted that the pricing news was in the pipeline already, and had no direct link with the MCI Communications Corp alliance, but the timing was extremely apt and observers expect the MCI deal to cut prices; BT is cutting the cost of a five minute call to North America to UKP2.02 cheap rate from the current UKP2.19, and slashing charge card rates; the cheap rate is down 32% and the peak rate charge is abolished; it will also offer limited time specials.
