Texas Instruments Inc growth in demand for chips next year to slow to about 15% from an estimated 29% this year, senior vice-president Kevin McGarity told the conference: while 1994 sales will still be strong, it is unlikely the chip industry could sustain the sharp growth posted this year but From what we have seen, 1994 will still be a very good year; he said that currently the Asia Pacific region is the fastest growing market with good demand from the consumer sector, but the industry is still watching for a recovery to take hold in the Japanese market in 1994; he saw growth coming from several sectors, including personal computers and communication devices that use the firm’s signal processor chips; he noted that the transition to the 16M-bit generation of memory chips has gone more slowly than expected, and Texas Instruments now believes that the 4M-bit memory market will not peak until sometime in 1994.
