M4 Data Ltd, the Camberley, Surrey tape drive company now owned by Storage Technology Corp although it doesn’t say so, reports that it has signed a major distribution agreement for its half-inch tape drives in the People’s Republic of China. It is going through an unidentified Hong Kong distributor, and looks for unit sales to be well into three figures in the first year of the agreement, with the low-cost 9914 quad-density subsystem accounting for two thirds.
