Those that have taken up as their watchword Objects no Money, the implication of which is that object-oriented programming, where applications programming consists of buying 90% of the code off the shelf in the form of fully-tested objects, and simply linking them together, only resorting to sleeves-up programming where no suitable object is found to have been written already, will change the economics of the process so radically (for the better) that those that still believe in the prevailing kinds of computer-aided software engineering will be suitable CASEs for treatment, will yawn at this, but IBM’s line is that there will be bridges between AD/Cycle and AIX/CASE and to that end, the company says that it has now converged the separate efforts within its Programming Systems group, and that support will be expanded to cover alien systems too.
