Phoenix, Arizona-based Rupp Technology Corp, developer of communications and information management software for mobile computing, has launched a word-processing program for pen-based computing. The object-oriented program, Stylus WP, is one of two software components produced by Rupp for Momenta Corp’s new pentop portable. The Momenta computer also contains an adaptation of Rupp’s FastLynx file transfer program, which enables connection of the Momenta system to MS-DOS-based personal computers. The 6lb Momenta is intended to act as a desktop MS-DOS system or a pen-based portable. The Momenta pen-based computer features 4Mb RAM, expandable to 8Mb, and 1.25Mb read-only memory, expandable to 5Mb. It runs programs optimised for pen-based operation as well as native MS-DOS programs, including MS-DOS and Windows applications. MS-DOS can be run in either keyboard or pen-only mode – the computer switches automatically into keyboard mode when the keyboard is plugged in, and back into pen mode when it’s detached. The Momenta is claimed to convert hand-printing created with the electronic pen into typescript, and then to produce a word-processed document.
