Digitivy Inc, the brand new, Los Altos California-based product arm of Architecture Projects Management Ltd, the Cambridge, UK- based consultancy and research company, has released the first fruits of its new Applet Management System, a management and security tool for Java called Digitivity Cage. According to Digitivity, Cage protects corporate network security by running all applets outside the company firewall, eliminating the risk of hostile applets running wild, as can occur with other Java security products. Cage comprises two major components, the AppRouter which sits between the user’s browser and the firewall, and the CageServer which resides outside the firewall and hosts Java applets. Both run on either Windows NT or Sun Solaris servers. Digitivity went into business in January of this year and Cage is the first product in its Applet Management System family to ship. The next up, in the fourth quarter, is Policy Cage, a tracking and address registry service, which assigns specific security and system access policies based on an applet’s digital signature or IP address. After this will come Enterprise Cage, due early next year, which adds bridges to transaction processing and messaging systems as well as enhanced logging and auditing.
