The World Wide Web Consortium has released the specification of HTML 4.0 as a W3C Recommendation for HyperText Markup Language standardization. A Recommendation means that HTML 4.0 is now stable, contributes to web interoperability, and has been reviewed by W3C members, says the Consortium. HTML 4.0, first issued as a public working draft back in July, adds features such as advanced forms and tables, in-line frames, and support for objects, scripts and style sheets over the current 3.2 version of HTML. Any serious web application should be HTML 4.0 compliant from now on, said Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the web.
