Computer Associates International Inc has finally released its long awaited Jasmine software development technology. The product has come about as the result of a partnership between CA and Fujitsu Ltd, Jasmine being an advanced version of Fujitsu’s ODB- II object database (CI No 2,844). It consists of an object orientated database and an object environment. The Jasmine Application Development Environment or Jade, enables non- developers to compose applications. Jasmine supports native Java, HTML, C++ and ActiveX and is capable of running on any browser. Jasmine has taken two years to come to market, but Wang doesn’t think this is a problem and says the development of the product and its code writing is an artistic process and you keep going until you have something you are completely happy with. The company claims to believe that it is playing in a competitor free field, and Wang thinks real competition will arise in the future from hybrid products.
