IT security firm Symantec has reported generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) revenue of $1.7b for the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, up 14% compared to the same quarter previous year.

The company’s GAAP net income was $182m for the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, up X% compared with net income of $136m for the year-ago period.

Symantec reported a 41% increase in GAAP diluted earnings per share, to $0.24 in the second fiscal quarter from $0.17 for the year-ago quarter.

The company said its GAAP operating margin for the quarter was 17% compared with 14.7% for the same quarter last year.

The company posted 25.5% in non-GAAP operating margin for the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, compared with 25.1% for the same quarter previous year.

Non-GAAP net income of $295m was seen for the fiscal second quarter, up 11% compared with $266m for the year-ago period, while non-GAAP diluted earnings per share were $0.39 compared with earnings per share of $0.34 for the year-ago quarter, a 15% increase year-over-year.

For the third quarter of fiscal year 2012 ending 30 December 2011, the company expects revenue between $1.70b and $1.72b, up 6 to 7% year-over-year.
