Hewlett-Packard Co’s MeasureWare agent for its recently web- enabled OpenView network management product (CI No 3,127) is now up and running on Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG’s Reliant version of Unix, the operating system formally known as Sinix. It will work in conjunction with Reliant’s existing network management product, TransView, which currently has no dedicated performance monitor. HP MeasureWare is a tool for collecting, monitoring and logging key performance metrics for system, application and processors. The agent is designed to collect data and report back to the management station and can be customized to alert management stations to a range of different circumstances relating to memory/ central processing unit speed, disk input/output and other key performance indicators. HP says its use of de-facto application response measurement and application programming interface standards is key to enabling its agent to work on an end-to-end basis. The new agent will also work in conjunction the company’s PerfView tools suite, a performance planning tool which analyzes how systems handle data from a central Unix system or NT console. The HP MeasureWare agent for Reliant Unix 5.42 and 5.43 is shipping now in the US and Europe. Pricing is on a per-seat basis and is dependent on the number of installations; 1 to 9 costs $2,000, 10 to 49; $1,800, 50 to 199; $1,620, 200 to 499; $1,525 and $1,295 for 500+.
