Word is that Oracle Corp is re-examining Visual Edge Software Ltd’s ObjectBridge object protocol translation engine as a way to support its multiple object request broker, Java, messaging and client development environments. Oracle originally licensed ObjectBridge for use with its abandoned Sedona programming toolset and its interest in the Visual Edge technology appeared to have gone the same way. Although Oracle claims its interest in end-to-end Java plumbing goes back a couple of years, Sedona was canceled earlier this year after it got too far out of step with the kinds of Java, JavaScript and internet plumbing strategy it was clear that Oracle would have to pursue. Indeed the Visual Basic, client-server-oriented Sedona had generated its own infrastructure requirements that were far ahead of Oracle’s existing middleware of the time, and was set to bring with it a very large piece of baggage.
