Borland International Inc says that its $50 special offer on Quattro Pro 5.0 has been much more successful than it expected and that it has already hit the 50,000 target it looked for by January 15; the company told Dow Jones & Co that market-research firms are suggesting Borland’s share of the spreadsheet market might have doubled from about 12% when the low, low pricing was announced – Quattro Pro has been on allocation for several weeks because of the difficulty of printing manuals fast enough to go with the program; Borland is seeking customer and analyst reactions to three potential options after January 15 – leaving the price at $50, raising it to $100 or raising it to $500; it didn’t say what decision has been reached, but the the price definitely will increase.
