AT&T Co – figures, page seven – described its results as hard-won in the face of a lacklustre economy: the company’s product and financial services businesses were particularly strong contributors to revenues in the period; product sales grew by $317m or 8%, with sales gains in virtually every line although the telecommunications business was essentially unchanged from the year-ago quarter, largely as a result of customers choosing lower-priced services; communications products and systems sales rose nearly 23%, network telecommunications equipment sales gained nearly 7% and sales of the NCR Corp computer products rose 4% although the unit’s overall revenues fell; the company says it continues to target 10% earnings growth in 1993.
