Leading Edge Products Inc founder Michael Shane’s new company, Model American Computer Corp in Marlborough, Massachusetts was intending to avoid the problems to assailed Leading Edge by making all its own personal computers in-house, but finding enough cash has been so tough that the company has been forced to fire almost all its manufacturing staff and subcontract manufacture to SCI Systems Inc, Huntsville, Alabama: according to the Wall Street Journal, the company has cut its manufacturing and customer service staff to 20 from 58, and the sales force to 25 from 33; sales are reported to have remained steady at about $2m a month.
