As reported briefly (CI No 1,956), Cable & Wireless Plc’s Mercury Communications Ltd unit has received a significant boost to its telecommunications facilities management business, with a UKP15m, five-year contract to manage TSB Group Plc’s TSB Retail Banking and Insurance’s corporate voice and data networks. Under the contract, Mercury is to provide voice and data communications services to the bank’s major administrative and head office sites. It will switch the services from the bank’s network – the assets of which Mercury acquired as part of the agreement – to its own network. The 23 telecommunications specialists employed by the TSB to manage the network will now transfer to Mercury. The announcement follows a similar contract in May when Mercury acquired the assets and employees of GEC Plc’s internal network operations as part of a pact to run the electronics giant’s phone system.
