Sprint Corp, which late last year bought the 51% of its Plessey Telenet joint venture held by GEC Siemens Plc (CI No 2,019) has found a new European partner for the business in the shape of Alcatel Alsthom SA’s Alcatel NV. It is to put the former Plessey Telenet business into a new joint venture, Alcatel Data Networks, in which Alcatel will hold 51%. Terms were not disclosed but the company will inherit more than 1,000 employees and 300 customers and be headquartered in Paris. It will build virtual private networks using France Telecom’s Transpac and Sprint’s SrintNet X25 and Frame Relay networks, and also build full private networks for bigpublic and private users worldwide.
