Despite the acquisition of NCR Corp by AT&T Co – which really is calling the company its Networked Computing Resource – there is one arm of the NCR empire that remains quasi-independent: NCR Japan Ltd is only 70%-owned by AT&T with the rest of the equity traded in Tokyo, but it might as well be captive – it has just made a $480m loan to AT&T which will fall due in June 1996; NCR Japan made loans to NCR Corp in the past, which the US parent returned in May; now that NCR is part of AT&T, the loans go to the telephone company instead.
