JetFax Inc, headquartered in San Diego, has launched the JetFax Digitizer, a facsimile digitising product that enables users to send Group III faxes over private digital data lines: it is claimed to offer savings on international and domestic transmissions by compressing fax to 9,600bps, eliminating the need for long distance direct dialling and dedicated lines; ordinary fax signals are digitised and transmitted at 9,600bps, reducing bandwidth consumption and transmitting at the maximum allowable speed; up to six channels can be incorporated on a single 64Kbps digital trunk, and as a stand-alone device, the JetFax eliminates the need to invest in new digital fax equipment or additional bandwidth; it offers transmission on T1, fractional T1 and 64Kbps or 56Kbps trunks by connecting to a standard RS-232 DCE port on a multiplexer, and the JetFax accepts analogue signals from Group III fax through a four-wire E&M interface; the fax signal is digitised as required to the speed of the network data signal, and the Digitiser supports two PABX ports, digitising each to 9,600bps or 4,800bps data; out now at $3,000 for the two-line unit.
