CGI Informatique SA, newly acquired by IBM France SA, announced that PAC/CS, a client-server version of its software engineering product PacBase, is scheduled for beta test in September and will be available in the first quarter of 1994: it is based on object technology, and CGI says PAC/CS enables prototyping and generation of client-server applications from a variety of developer workstations, including Softbench and Workbench; PAC/CS generates the client part of the applications in either Windows, OS/2 Presentation Manager or Motif environments, which in turn access different database servers via either an SQL request or an intermediate server component generated by PacBench and accessed via standard protocols such as CPI-C and RPC; CGI says PAC/CS will be available first on PacBase mainframe servers then on PACLAN/X for Unix servers and PACLAN personal computer servers.
