Computer Associates International Inc has now revealed details of its plans to muscle in on the IBM Corp-Apple Computer Inc party (CI No 1,724), saying that it wants to make the Macintosh one of the strategic clients in its client-server computing schema. The move is a reflection of the fact that Apple will now be making every effort, with tacit encouragement from IBM, to get its machines into major corporate IBM mainframe accounts and Computer Associates wants a piece of the action. It has licensed Apple’s Data Access Language, and will develop and distribute DAL server software for its CA-Datacom, CA-IDMS and CA-DB database managers. It also plans to develop Mac client-server versions of its Masterpiece applications.
